RSVP TV PROGRAM
(Text by Pete Porter; Photos by Margaret Porter)

Franklin Neely of the Torrance City Cable Channel was recently in our RSVP office to film a documentary about our organization.

The general activities of RSVP were summarized as Franklin carried out imterviews with Executive Director, Thomas White, Program Manager, Ges Davis, and a small representative cross section of our members. Those members present included Chuck Lobb (Executive Director of the Torrance Amateur Radio Association); Board Member Richard Berryman; and Web Editor, Pete Porter, who was accompanied by his wife, Margaret.

Ham Operator, Chuck Lobb

A demonstration of how the CVAN radio network would function during an emergency was given by Ges Davis and Chuck Lobb. Ges Davis (KG6RTM) is a licensed ham radio operator was at the CVAN Net Control station and Chuck Lobb (KN6H) broadcasting from the Torrance Post Office, reporting important information (this is a drill) of a local earthquake disaster scenario.

It was emphasized that the Ham Radio system would still be able to provide a vital link even when normal land line and cell phones had become inoperable.

Franklin then interviewed Chuck Lobb, Richard Berryman and Pete Porter to determine how their activities were integrated into the organization.

Other members of the RSVP staff who were present in the office included RSVP office volunteers, Kathy Mealins; Karen Hill; Jessie Palicte; Joanne Uhrinak; Marg Miyamura; Gail Bedinger; and Patty Pruuel As you can see from the following photograph, Gail Bedinger and Karen Hill were both still hard at work as I took my leave of the building.
The program is due to be shown on Channel 3 sometime in the near future and it is hoped that the resulting publicity will encourage additional viewers to contact us regarding becoming an RSVP Volunteer, as well as providing current. members with a bit more information about our activities. By the way, RSVP of South Bay has over 800 volunteers and has 120 locations where they volunteer.

Please give us a call to find out more. .
